Introduction

In relation to other cancer forms, prostate cancer is readily treatable if detected early on. The advent of the PSA test has facilitated the development of new treatment methods, dramatically increased the number of prostate cancers that have been detected early on, and thereby increased the survival rate of patients. If prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated during the initial states, patients have a survival rate of 94% over a five-year period. In light of these relatively new diagnosis and treatment methods, this site presents an overview of the causes, treatment, and prevention of prostate cancer.

The prostate & cancerThe prostate and cancer
This section outlines the function and anatomy of the prostate gland and also outlines the factors that contribute to the development of prostate cancer.
DiagnosisDiagnosis
This section provides a discussion of the numerous techniques that doctors use to correctly diagnose prostate cancer and to isolate the tumor in the prostate gland. Such diagnosis techniques have not only allowed for the successful use of radiation therapy in a localized region but have also increased the number of prostate cancer cases that have been identified early on in the development of the tumor.
TreatmentTreatment
This section outlines the various treatment options that are available to patients based upon the physical condition of the patient and the stage that the tumor is at.
